Inspired by red and white whirling barber poles, this kinetic sculpture was made for a shopfront gallery using only a ribbon and a motor. Subtle factors such as the woven construction of the ribbon, air resistance, gravity, and the accelerating and decelerating of the motor worked together to create form. The design process discovered the right balance, and an infrared sensor allowed passers-by to play with the speed of the motor, changing the spiral within. Exhibited at *QueenSpecific, Toronto.
