RICHARD IVEY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN ONTARIO 2010
For Hariri Pontarini Architects, conceptual design studies and a coordinated strategy were developed for all the furniture in the school, so as to create a consistent visual language and facilitate academic excellence and exchange. Areas of responsibility included case classrooms, breakout rooms, student and staff lounges, common areas, academic and administration offices, and open office spaces. The work involved bespoke built-in furniture, including desks for the tiered classrooms; customization of existing products with manufacturers; and selection of commercial products such a task chairs, lounge seating, and lighting. This design development was supported by research of furniture-intensive environments, school furniture typologies, and business school interiors.
