Sugar Beach Umbrella
The pink fibreglass umbrella is a signature feature of Sugar Beach, one of Toronto’s iconic waterfront parks. The “umbrella” has an internal steel structure sandwiched by two molded fibreglass shells which join together at a thin outside edge. The design appears impossibly light but can withstand hurricane-force winds and the durability challenges of urban furniture. The 36 umbrellas were commissioned by Claude Cormier Architectes Paysagistes as part of a competition-winning landscape design.
